FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Day for Data is located in Owens Ballroom located at 150 Kent St, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Please use the entrance closest to Eggleston Hall and the registration desk will be immediately on your right; alternately, enter using the Hokie Grill/Dunkin Donuts entrance and proceed straight down the hall and the registration desk will be on your left.

If you are an industry attendee, and you have not already received a parking pass in the mail, stop by the Hokie Bookstore parking lot the morning of to pick up your pass between 7:45 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. We recommend you proceed to park in the Squires or Architecture Annex lots. More parking may be found further on Washington St. Below is a map that shows the route you should take. We recommend taking the following route:

  • Take Washington St. in towards campus.
  • Turn onto Kent St.
  • Enter the Hokie Bookstore parking lot on the right. Event staff will be there to hand you a parking pass.
  • Follow Kent St. out and turn right on Alumni Mall.
  • Turn right onto Main St. then right onto College Ave.
  • Follow College Ave. around and pull into either the Squires or Architecture Annex lots.

Please note: due to the Virginia Tech vs. Purdue game on Saturday, all cars must be moved from Virginia Tech parking lots by 7 p.m. or will risk being towed.

Please note: due to Virginia Tech Procedure 90200, we are not permitted to issue visitor parking passes to current VT faculty, staff, or students. Passes are for paying industry/sponsor participants only.

The event is free to current students and faculty/staff working at universities (Virginia Tech and beyond), Virginia Tech alumni, and the general public. Industry attendees representing companies are paid for as a benefit of their company's sponsorship.

Business casual attire is required. Business professional is encouraged.

Day for Data will not be livestreamed, but the event will be recorded. Session recordings will be sent to registered attendees following the event.

Attendees should bring the following:

  • Business casual attire
  • Your Hokie Passport ID (for VT students and faculty/staff)
  • A copy of your resume/CV
  • A light jacket (Owens Ballroom can be chilly)
  • A notebook (optional)

No, food will not be provided, with the exception of our paying industry members, sponsors, and participating speakers. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. we will break for lunch. All attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of dining options within Owens Hall. You are welcome to bring your meal back to Owens Ballroom to eat and network with other attendees if you would like.

Attendees are encouraged to network during the morning registration time, on breaks, during lunch, and at the Norfolk Southern-sponsored networking event at Maroon Door following the conclusion of the event.

An ADA-accessible entrance is available. Please follow appropriate signage to enter Owens through the door next to the Eggleston Quad, follow the elevator up, and enter the event space. Following the event, session recordings will be transcribed, captioned, published, and sent via email to registered attendees.
