The Challenge

MSBA-BA graduate students Ethan Mills, Mitchell Keaney, Jieun Lee, and Emily McCorkle worked to enhance Carter Machinery's data quality and governance. With the company’s push towards a data-driven business strategy under the CarterOne Digital Excellence Program, they aimed to standardize customer information input processes across departments. Carter Machinery faces challenges with frequent customer data changes and disparate departmental systems, necessitating a consistent and standardized data management approach.

The Solution

The team proposed a comprehensive framework to improve data quality at Carter Machinery. They developed detailed data entry standards, including specific formatting guidelines for phone numbers and addresses, to reduce duplicates and improve accuracy. To monitor data quality continuously, they developed a data dashboard, allowing real-time tracking and analysis of data integrity across various departments. Through extensive research, benchmarking, and interviews with Carter’s data quality champions, they emphasized the importance of clear and explicit data entry instructions. These recommendations aim to foster a company-wide culture of data excellence, enhancing customer satisfaction and giving Carter Machinery a competitive edge in the industry.
